Portraits of Cleo

Here are four versions of the same pic. The smoke portrait came from a photoshop tutorial I did a while back. I wanted to try it with my own pic and Cleo was the lucky subject. Kinda spooky but a fun tutorial.

Recycling Flowers

I don’t have any flowers here yet and the lake is still mostly ice, though it’s melted about quarter of the way to the islands. Today I heard a couple of loons across the lake and a few mergansers were fishing near the shore. There’s a mama and baby moose loitering around the neighborhood which makes dog-walking a spooky venture.

But I really want some flowers and spring-y things like butterflies even though it’s far too early, so I’m recycling old pic’s with some photoshopping:

Ding Dong My Reader’s Dead!

A couple of years ago I made the unfortunate purchase of a Sony Reader Touch (prs-600). We had a contentious relationship from the beginning, thanks to its inability to hold a charge for more than 3 days and really bad customer support from Sony (in Texas AND India). It’s clunky interface didn’t help either.  I won’t bore you with the details but in summary, the Sony Reader sucks and Sony customer support is worse.

Sweet justice

Mushed screen

Two years after that misguided purchase I was so happy when I accidentally leaned my elbow on the reader, causing the screen to mush and bricking it. I don’t believe I’ve ever taken a frustrated hammer to a gadget or pc though there may have been a moment or two in the Nineties when a pc deserved it. Oh, the missed opportunities! It was truly satisfying to hammer that piece of  Sony shit.

Cleo in the Snow

Latest pics of Cleo playing in the snow. She’s about 8-1/2 months. I’d guess she’s around 60-65 pounds.

Ice

Some pics of the ice and a cool winter scene.

Pressure Ridge

This crack caused was so loud and caused the house to shake. I actually thought a tree had fallen on the house!

There have been many freeze/thaw cycles since November and lately the lake has been very vocal about it. Eerie, swirly ET-type noises of the water under the ice, some gurgling, the crunching of the shifting ice when it melts/freezes and the loud bangs from pressure cracks. Bang isn’t the right word. BANG is better but still not quite as shocking as the real thing. I found this site which has really good info on ice.
